Broad beans

Hi I'm growing Sutton broad beans, I've put a small cane in but they seem to have keeled over right at the top where they weren't supported?
Do broad beans mind been wet we've had a load of rain lately starting to think I should move them somewhere sheltered?

When you say move them I presume they're growing in pots.

Hi Spunky - I'm not having much luck with my broadies either - they've fallen over, and the bottom flowers have gone all black and rotten and the tiny beans have fallen off. I've tried them both in the polytunnel and outside, and neither lot is looking good at the moment. Maybe it's just one of those things I'm fated not to grow well.... and I'd thought they were almost idiot proof! (No offence Spunky, I'm talking about myself there not you!)

Mine usually fall over - although I've not had much problem with mine rotting in previous years.

The ones a fellow plot holder planted in autumn look good - they're short though/

Not wanting to sound happy but I am glad it isnt just me, I planted Aquadulce back in middle of feb and my broads are maybe 7" or 8" tall and seem to have barely moved for over a month now. I know the weather hasnt been great but i'd expect them to be pushing on a bit by now and apart from frilly leaves thanks to the weevils they look very healthy.
I also did a test plant of Aquadulce back in november and they have done the same, just kind of stopped maybe 2" taller than the feb ones.

I haven't got any broad beans and tbh I'm glad looking at the weather outside. I'd be surprised if any are left standing after this battering.

mine are going black what is going on is it the weather i thought i would have had fruits coming by now i planted them back in november as was advised to do

Mine are really upright and have loads of flowers - no pods set yet. They can survive over winter so they should be ok no matter what the weather throws at them. They may just need respite!

Well, mine have grown another 1" or so and bushed out a bit, the only thing thats a saving grace their slow growth seems to have produced quite sturdy stems but they still look a good 1-2 months from flowering putting them firmly in aphid season... better hope my nasturtiums are ready to play sacrifical lamb.

Mine overwintered Aquadulce are about 3 ft tall. There are lots of flowers but no pods showing as yet.

One flower at the bottom of the plant that I examined yesterday just dropped off - no pod. The second one I tried had a very tiny pod in.

My overwintered aquadulce were decimated (to the ground in most cases) by the February frosts. About half or less have come back, but they are about 7 inches tall max. I shant be bothering next year. I don't like broad beans that much.

What is going black? The stems or the flowers?
