I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....

I'm as bad with PSB as I am with peas - if I'm passing I pull some off and eat it, yum. Some did make it to the steamer yesterday though and that was yum too

I grew PSB for the first time last year.

Pretty much all year I was grumbling and mumbling about how long it was in the ground and saying 'there's no way I'll grow it again'...

... as soon as I saw those little purple heads forming a couple of weeks ago I was sooooooooooo excited I was all but jumping up and down with joy!

OH and I very much enjoyed it lightly steamed and used as dippers with soft boiled eggs that evening. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

Now planning on sowing some more and growing on in pots as suggested above!

Don't fry it! I simmer mine gently - then you can add the butter and pepper.

Hoping to be able to pick a load when I go to the plot tomorrow. Only grow a few plants so never freeze any but love it during the season. Almost all of ours is just lightly steamed then eaten naturally so that you can taste the natural flavours rather than smoother them with any sauces or anything else. Really good.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Anyone tried Brokoli Apollo (green sprouting) - i've just sown some. Might have to get a purple variety too. Is there anything specific i ought to do to prepare the soil before planting out?

As an unsuccessful greens grower, I have avoided PSB and broc because of pigeons, whitefly, and various other pests. I have sown some plants this year and hope to protect witth mesh. How do you all cope with the pests?

I'd forgotten I sowed any (it was a year ago) but this week the PSB has appeared en masse! I noticed it because suddenly a section of green debris netting had developed "pyramid pants"

I took it off, did a quick weed (not many weeds, because of the chop n drop mulch) and brought home a carrier bag full of PSB. Steamed for 2 mins, then bathed it in butter. Even the OH ate it

Who wouldn't, it sounds delicious. I'm looking forward to my crop, although it is a long wait. I have fond memories of picking PSB with my granpa at his lottie, many, many years ago. I hope the OH isn't in the 'pest' classification
