Trying Anything New This Year?

Not sure about which new veg I'm going to try...I need pennies before I dare look on Ebay for seeds.
My new things are more methods. I've become a little obsessed with getting my hands on cardboard and newspapers and sourcing as much top layer material as I can get my hands on...friends are saving me pet bedding and grass clippings and none of them like coming to coffee shops with me as they know we'll leave with a bin bag full of grounds.
Also, going to give Veggie Chicken's idea of spinach rows on a patch a go.

Having really enjoyed a Cantaloup Melon from the supermarket, have saved some seeds and am going to have a stab at growing my own. Never tried growing Melons before, but am planning on treating them in a similar fashion to my Cucumbers which went ballistic last year.
Anyone else having a "First Time" this season?

Seem to remember in the Victorian Kitchen Garden DVD, Harry Dodson advocated growing melons in raised beds in the greenhouse? I think he cut fibrous turf from a nearby field and grew them in that, apparently mimmicking the medium they grow in naturally.

................Myself, I'm trying rhubarb from seed which I've never tried before, trying growing some soft fruit as half standards from my own cuttings, trying slowly to convert all my indoor growing to raised beds, as usual experimenting with differnt tons and perppers and hoping that my peach tree will see it through the winter unscathed.

And to go with the Netting - I am also obsessed with frames of different designs.

So I'll be weaving bamboo into 3 dimensional frames and throwing my new netting over them and taking photos of the resulting frameworks.

Another one for trying Cinnamon Vine (cannot resist Real Seeds), also giving Par-Cel another go (last effort was - not good). I can grow parsley, so on earth do I struggle with Par-Cel Also tempted to try growing Watermelon (really), I've seeds for a Canadian variety suitable for short growing seasons. I think I'll sow if we have an okay Spring. Got seeds from the excess seed parcel for Szechuan Aubergine but I'm dithering.

I'm going to try romanescoe as a completely new thing this year. My other new things are new varieties of usual things!

Ok .........have just nearly choked trying not to laugh out loud(at work) .......looks like someone's hung something on the plant ........also nice to know (well not nice for them ) that even the proffessionals have wabbit problems........

Exactly - how can I grow parsnips and root parsley - but not celeriac? It's the same family, same needs etc - I just can't grow it!

Watermelon for me though I'm not very optimistic. It's germinated and under lights with the Chilli's. Greenhouse being built so will eventually go in there.

I grew Oca and Yacon last year and will be repeating them. This is going to be the year I actually get leeks and pumpkins-hopefully !

Having always grown only typical outdoorsy typestuff, am going to try toms and chillis this year and some sweet peppers...

I'm determined to grow spring onions , not sure why it's never resulted in a crop yet and as we all love swede going to give them a go. Long slow process I know but fam would be impressesd.oh, and melons in the greenhouse. Totally indulgent cos I may only get a couple of fruits. But it would make me very happy!!!!
