Now that was stupid of me!

Finally got my first Habenero off my chilli plant the about 2 weeks ago, it really looked the business, beautiful size and shape, brilliant orange colour (starts rubbing hands in glee ) sliced off a piece and tried it, oh man, to say it was a disappointment was an understatement! Had more bite out of a sweet pepper! As stated before, the soil is really poor here but thought the chillis did ok in poor soil. So after some investigating, I put some sulphur of Potassium in about a week ago. Thought I'd try the other chilli that was readyso based on the other chilli, bit and ate half in 1 go. Took 10 mins of running around to get rid of the burn. I looked a right silly sight

The question is has anyone else tried sulphur of potassium to improve the heat in their chilli's? Once I can verify that it was that stuff that did it, then the next question is what organically can do the same?

I've found that chilli heat can vary between one fruit and another off the same plant, with no adjustment to feeding etc, so I wouldn't be convinced by just the one occasion myself. I'm not saying that it wasn't because of the potassium sulphate, it might well be.
Nutrient Requirements of Pepper Plants | eHow.com explains the role of the different nutrients in pepper and chilli plants.
A high potash feed should take care of the potassium needs, and according to the link, sulphur is usually present in soil as organic matter decays.

I'd heard that the fruit can vary on the same plant - bit of roulette as to whether you get a hot one or not.

Oh zen master, I'm used to varying heat off one bush, but never before have I had one lacking any heat what so ever so was a bit of a shock I'll tell ya especially the second one

Mine all get a comfrey tea drink with every watering. I've noticed that the late ripening chillies (ripening in cool temps) have no heat to them at all

the padron pepper (Tapa's pepper) is like that
1 in 10 will take your head off where the other 9 are like sweet peppers

as to nutrients, i'm trying the chilli focus feed this year, see if any better than the organic liquid i used last year

2011 i grew jalapenos in the greenhouse on the potting bench for pickling.. approx 12 plants...

shop bought versions come in mild and sweet hot.

i picked a few and ate one i thought quite mild..

i gave some to an allotment member to try as he likes currys.

i ate one infront of him as i ate the jalapino i had to turn away from him as i had tears rolling down my face it was that hot.

i looked around after trying to dry my face he was doubled up and his face was bright red.. as he ate the jalipeno whole then he was running to the greenhouse looking for a drink to cool it down...

i never laughed so much.... we both were in histerics..

Anything Ma Nature makes of keratin - so hooves, fur, hair, toenail clippings, corneas - contains sulphur. Eggs would probably be the best way to add it, they contain a lot for the developing embryo. (The sulphur in eggs is why metal whisks always tarnish, it's very reactive.)

I believe kiwis contain a lot of violence...
