Yes, I agree. For instance (sticking my head up here - don't shoot!) as the moon doesn't follow our 24 hour day exactly, doesn't that mean that sometimes the best time for sowing/planting/harvesting etc can be in the wee small dark hours when I'm still tucked up in bed? How do you get around that?

Sylvan, you raise a good point, just being that little more organised would certainly help. If it also encourages people to take a greater interest in what they are doing that to can only help after all there are more than enough imponderables in this game.

Moon planting is having a beneficial effect on me and I can say that without fear of contradiction! Each day I look at the calendar, either VVG's or the Biodynamic one which I've bookmarked, and think about what I can do today. Not, as I used to do, - think I've a free day what shall I sow - and then be sidetracked and not sow anything after all. I'm drip-feeding my sowing, a few seeds most days, which should mean more leisurely pricking or planting out too. Its the most organised thing I do these days!! If the moon method works that's fantastic, if it doesn't I'm still ahead of my old routine. Its Win, Win as far as I'm concerned.

mothhawk, moonrise and moonset are supposed to be the optimum times for sowing and planting. (Do I care? Heck no! )
It's like everything else in life - you can follow the rules as much as is convenient or you can be completely obsessive...

              Very, very old saying.

I'm considering the science. I saw Brian Cox explain the tides and tidal bulge and how it affects all matter.

I can accept that water can be pulled ago the surface at different moon phases.

Therefore ther might be something in it.

But how com different seeds are affected differently and some phases are good for some and not for others. Also surely watering by hand can override the tidal pull in respect to how much water is needed for germination.

I am not convinced but I will now read the chapter on the subject in my organic gardening book which I have so far obstinately ignored!

I won't blindly dis it any more......sorry if I have offended any grapes. What about God then?

I've gotta read up on this.
I think it is possible, I havnt yet had any experience of it but seeing how much the state of the moon affects fishing I am ruling nothing out!!
My fishing records go back to 1994, consistantly proving that sea fish especially really dont feed well when a large moon is about (sorry I dont yet know the correct terms) with a small moon (crest? crescent? waning?...small anyway) leading to increased feeding activity.
Interestingly when you can see no moon at all (i dont mean cloudy lol) I have had totally irratic results with no fixed patern whatsoever.
I know I probably bore some of you to death with all the fishing but if it can do this to fish, why not plants!?
My results are not sceintific, but are just jottings, all over different tide states, different times, day/night, weather situations low/high etc etc.
something i'd personally like to look at in the future.

                              Waxing between full and new
