Yes they would, some of them. Depends how big your container is. However, root size isn't the only thing to consider when deciding whether to plant in pots, tubs or indeed dustbins.
You also have to consider the soil needed (acid or alkaline), firmness of soil, and final size of mature plant.
For those reasons, I reckon it would be more challenging (but not impossible) to grow sprouts in a container.

I agree, part of the reason, why I wrote, what I did. However, you can also grow a lot of things in near sweet nothing.
