This year I grew Carentan and Porvite. Don't know which is which now - another labelling problem! Both are equally puny but they weren't planted out for a long time as I had to create a space for them first. That space is also not ideal as its a terrace under trees! Such are the challenges of gardening on a wooded cliff.
Maybe, next year, I will have found a better spot for them.

Sounds a nice location but I know what you mean. Our top garden is copse/woodland and roots traveling everywhere mean you can grow little else.

BDS for me every time. They stand the cold really well, last till spring and are very tasty. Whilst not the fattest variety they do thicken up quite well and as a bonus the colouring is lovely to behold on a frosty morning.

Have just ordered that one after earlier recommendations. Thinking of Jeune de Poitou also...
