Which cabbage please...

I have another lost cabbage query, this time without even a photo...
OK. They're absolutely HUGE - no hearts, but lots of colossal, rhubarb-plus-sized savoy-like crinkled leaves. Dark green. Any thoughts, anyone? Wondering if they're the seedlings I bought from Delfland, in which case could poss be spring hero...hmm?

I grow Spring Hero haven't even put the seeds in yet and they dont seem to grow that big. Having said that I eat most of them as spring greens as I need the space for my peas and calabrese.

Yes, labels, which I cunningly lost. And, er, update...they do have hearts. They're just hard to see in the immense leafage. ANy ideas?

Apologies but back to my cabbage query. Here is a photo of the picked leaves.

Could someone please confirm (now there is a much clearer picture) whether this is, indeed, red cabbage. All the red cabbage photos I've seen are where the cabbage (funnily enough) is red.

As can be seen, these leaves are not red but green, with purple stalks.

I'd be grateful if someone could identify the type of cabbage - before I go ahead and eat it.

I am no cabbage expert but could it be one of the January King type.

I don't think so. I found this picture of January King. The leaves are very different.

Just to confuse you further...they look remarkably like some PSB that a friend of mine has been growing, which have become absolutely enormous but refuse to flower.

That pic looks like a January King 3, Have a look at Noelle which is another type of January King it is my belief that the leaves change as the plant grows.

Thank you Snohare - I'm almost convinced, if it weren't for the fact that I did not plant PSB.

But there is no denying the similarity of the leaves.

Apparently and unfortunately, it takes about a year to produce the broccoli but, on the plus side, the leaves are edible.

Unless someone posts to the contrary I shall take it that this is indeed PSB but how it got into my vegetable patch remains a mystery.

Colin, you posted as I was posting. I can see what you mean by Noelle January King, the leaves are very similar too. It is more likely that this is the cabbage which is growing in my vegetable patch, as I did actually sow cabbage seeds and not PSB.

I am learning fast about the art of vegetable growing. Rule One: don't throw the packet away!

Rule 2: Don't forget, some seed packets go soggy and illegible if sowing seed in the rain...!(And you can't make a note of what you've planted, if your notebook is soggy.)

I wonder if my friend has perhaps been a victim of production run roulette, and ended up with Noelle 3 in his raised beds instead of PSB ? !

Well, lettuce remain in doubt for the moment...

Just seen your pics and they look exactly like the cabbages I'm growing, mine are a variety called Kalibos and come from Thompson & Morgan.
The picture on the packet is of a red cabbage with white ribs but mine look nothing like that yet, they are only just starting to heart up now so they may yet turn more red towards the middle but at the moment the non-hearting leaves are massive and still a silvery green with red ribs just like your pics.
