"eh, did you plant red mooli's outside? They gone big."

Ma and I have just pulled out four of the freebie red radishes. About three-five inches long, and actually smell radish-y. Ma has also kept th leaves as well. Have no idea what she gonna do with it, pops was after it last time for the same reason.

Oh, no, Florence, my comiserations. Plant some more!

Apparently, Ma has saved the leaves to add to spinach and make Saag. You know the sort you find in Indian restaurants? The aloo saag stuff. The mind boggles... The leaves are horrible, no wonder the slugs gave them a wide berth .

          Container gardener curse...

The one thing about containers, is that everything becomes smaller.

Whilst the radishes are beautiful long and elongated, they are tiny. Like a HB pencil. There are a few chunky ones, but not many. Certainly not enough to keep pops and ma chomping happily.

And then, dear zeus in heaven. I've finally seen slugs! One was a bit corpsified and lay right across the flagstones (i relented yesterday and put down slug pellets as I've planted out lettuces and cabbages), and the two were nestled in the radishes. I nearly jumped out of my skin and into the air.Shouldn't bother me really, but I swear I flew off the ground....I got over it, picking one up as it clung on for dear life and flicking it away...

            is over for this year

...and has got me shaking a fist of fury!

I must be missing one heck of a trick. Lots of leafy foliage, but diddly radishes. Seriously, i feel the same way that I feel every time England crash out on penalties. (I definitely need some gainful employment, this is driving me a little bit too potty....)

T'is too late to sow mooli's. I might have a cuppa first, read my notebook, and sow some spring hero or something. On an oberservational note, so far, slugs don't appear to like spring hero in comparison to the greyhound....

oh, hang on. Note book says, roots and carrots.....isn't it a bit late for them?
