Last year I tried to sow them really early. It was a disaster... made about four re-sowings before some finally stuck. Neither chitting nor toilet rolls seemed to make any difference at all.

This year I followed my mum's advice - fresh seed, whole packet, wait till it's decently warm (23rd April this year) - and bingo, a decent number came up and not too slowly either, which I'm now thinning with caution. They're still small mind.

It might be a bit late now, but you could always give it a go and see what you get. What does the packet say?

I'd give it another go Lesley, it took me 4 sowings last year before I got them to germinate. I was kicking myself too because Jeannie D had sprouted some in her airing cupboard and she offered them to me. I refused thinking I would be ok first time. How wrong can you be?
