Aubergine in flower

Well pleased this morning to see my Aubergine Ophelia in flower, so fingers crossed that this year I get some fruits.

Mine appear to have been rather sluggish since being sent out to the greenhouse for nights, but I noticed yesterday that they almost all have a flower bud. And it's only May! I've also got chilis set from Jan sown seed, so something in the weather is on my side this year...

any views about growing an aubergine in a (big) windowbox? is the wind too much for them? in theory it's a dwarf variety - baby belle or something.

Trying aubergine this year, but I'm very frustrated at the slow rate of growth. Glad you have a flower Bren. BR, as far as I know, they like to be warm and sheltered, but I am a novice at aubergine, you might want to wait for the advice of someone with more experience.

when did you lot sow them? I notice colins post about his potatoes in buckets - his toms are huge and in flower. Mine aint :/

Last year I had flowers but never any fruits so this time I sown my seeds on Jan 11th just a month earlier to see if that makes a difference.

Ah, that's probably why then I think I sowed mine on the 23rd of March? I'll have to double check.

Bren - try daily misting the flowers. I had the same problem until I read that tip on a forum somewhere.

Sown Jan 1st with the chilis, it seems to work...

Mine were sown in February, just after the chilli, so they should be doing something by now surely. I'm wondering if the unheated stayput isn't warm enough for them.

Did you plant them in a heated prop? I didn't but kept them warm, and they were so runty you wouldn't believe it. Chillis not great either but mainly b/c deformed thanks to aphids, damn damn...
anyone out there know whether the wind on my windowsill will put paid to my aubergine hopes? They do get a lot of sun up there...

I started them in the heated prop then once I saw a bit of green they were put on the window sill were they stayed until mid April when they went into the unheated greenhouse.

Well now they've had a bit of wind rock since the panels blew in, so that might encourage a bit of growth!
