I am growing mine - Garten Perle - too but in pots - they tumble really well and I agree Snadger, the taste off the vine is as juicy and good as any other.Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better...Albert Einstein

I must admit, some comments put me off Garten Perle this year, so I went for Maskotka, and there doing well

Was wondering that too, and what lifestyle have they been living all this time?Originally posted by Sylvan View PostGood Grief DavyBurns, those are so advanced! When did you sow them?
Jiving on down to the beach to see the blue and the gray, seems to be all and it's rosy-it's a beautiful day!

They were germinated in my conservatory in late January, and were heated at room temp until the end of February, since then They have been in a sheltered GH with 3 heater tubes , 1 x 6, 1 x 5' and a 4' one, on thermostatic timers until mid April, were they were hung outside (after hardening off) and have been there since, apart from one night when a frost was forecast.Originally posted by King Carrot View PostWas wondering that too, and what lifestyle have they been living all this time?

Top job - did you use any artificial light on them?Originally posted by Davyburns View PostThey were germinated in my conservatory in late January, and were heated at room temp until the end of February, since then They have been in a sheltered GH with 3 heater tubes , 1 x 6, 1 x 5' and a 4' one, on thermostatic timers until mid April, were they were hung outside (after hardening off) and have been there since, apart from one night when a frost was forecast.
Do let us know when they ripen and how much the heating costs?
good luck with them!Jiving on down to the beach to see the blue and the gray, seems to be all and it's rosy-it's a beautiful day!

No artificial light, and it will be difficult to quantify the cost of heating, as the conservatory heating has a no frost facility, and they were in electric propagators. I reckon the GH heating for the 8 weeks it was on must have cost about 110 going by what my electricity bill was last year, but as there was about a 100 plants all told, this works out at just over 1 a plant.Originally posted by King Carrot View PostTop job - did you use any artificial light on them?

My wife has jus reminded me that the cost of electricity has risen sharply, so I suppose the cost will be less than I thoughtOriginally posted by Davyburns View PostI reckon the GH heating for the 8 weeks it was on must have cost about 110 going by what my electricity bill was last year,Last edited by Davyburns; 18-05-2011, 09:12 AM.

That's one reason I'd like a wind turbine at home! (an solar panels - I've a large south facing roof I could use).
my neighbour said to me the other day he was interested in a wind turbine too.. going off topic here but we share a garden tot he front of out house, thats very windy! Perhaps it could be a joint venture if that's possible.
