        Sowing, or planting out?

First 10 runner seeds went in to root trainers today in hope of an early crop. The rest plus back ups will go in next week. Non will be planted out until late May.

After my cockup earlier in the year I sowed my french and runner beans last week and they are already 2-3" tall its crazy, they will be going out to my parents greenhouse first week of May to harden and then in the ground the week after that. I have more than enough seeds left to cover myself if we get a hard frost so I am not too worried if they die off, would be a shame mind.

Well the post I went to a lot of trouble to send has buggered off into the ether somewhere.

Anyway here in North Staffs we have planted out in the garden a wigwam of Red Rum, which, if the weather turns nasty, we can cover with fleece. We also have a pot of Moonlight in the greenhouse about two foot up the canes.

Will let you know when we get our first feed.

I've put out dwarf french beans under a cloche, I am willing to take the risk now. Everyone has potatoes up now so it will be a mad panic if a frost does get forecast. Several plots also have runners and sweetcorn out. Some years it pays off others it doesn't.

Sowed my French beans first weekend of April in greenhouse. Theyre up and growing strongly. Plan on planting in the poly next weekend.

Also have dwarf runners in loo rolls.

My climbing frenchies are in modules and are about 2 inches high - my runners, planted in pots about 9 days ago have just broken through the surface. Sweetcorn, also planted in modules is an inch high - normally it takes at least 2 weeks for the things to germinate. The weather is glorious ... if dry! Please let it rain. I am going to resist the temptation to plant out the frenchies until at least next weekend.

Here's my Dwarf French bean plant sown about a month ago. Still in the conservatory and doing well. Have saved some space in the garden borders against the fence for them but depending on how tall dwarf varieties are supposed to get (anyone know?) then I may just keep them indoors! The second photo is one sown just a week ago!

Have sowed my runners about a week ago in rootrainers and left them on the patio next to the house wall with a clear plastic lid on. When they do show and reach a reasonable size, i shall plant them out. our last frost date is the end of April.
Frenchies are going to be sown in the same way during the next week.
