Right! That's it! I'm going to get some more on the way home and sow them before I get in and get lost in the sofa.

Defo not alot of people only just sow them now onwards. I plant them early as my plot isnt the best for the sun so need to squeeze my season as much as poss.
BTW the ones I planted out early as per this thread are doing fantastic. Over a foot I reckon which is no mean feat since they only get 3-4hrs sun this early in year (darn trees shading my plot). Did have a few cold nights straight after I planted them but it didnt bother them at all. Happy me

Mine will go out in a prepared bed under fleece or plastic next week. They are about 3 inches tall now and are starting to get potbound!
Was too late last year and got a carp harvest!

Aye, same here Snadge. I've had terrible results for the last 3 seasons with my corn, so it's had an early start this year. They've been hardening off for the last week, and hopefully I'll have a bed ready for them to go in by next week... I have cloche hoops and fleece on standby!

I've often started sweet corn in a proporgator and then transplanted them to a small pot. The roots are very long so you need to take care and I have lost a few that way, but it works fine for most of them. I'm guessing this may not be "best practise" from what you and others are saying, but it does work.Originally posted by Nibbler View PostI didn't realise that you're not supposed to disturb the roots. They are in tin cans and a trough, not a root trainer. Do you reckon they'll be ok to transplant? If not is it too late to sow some more?Last edited by BenLothair; 01-05-2011, 11:04 AM.

Mine is now outside but I've built a makeshift glass cold frame over them.
They were put out a couple of days ago and already appear to be romping away!
35 plants should be enough as there's only me in the family who likes em and I only like em raw within minutes of picking! Yum!
