  • Me and the dawg went to the allotment. I weeded the asparagus bed and she sat on the asparagus Brought home a dustbin lid to make a pond for the frogspawn (now froglets) that TS gave me. Did more weeding, picked more flower buds off the overwintering onions. Then went cold and dark so we came home.

    • Sowed all dwarf French bean varieties. Did some more clearing of the Somme, then came in to hide under the duvet. Lit a fire - it's freezing.

      • Potted on beans
        Potted on toms
        Pricked out winter cabbage
        Weeded out beds
Prepared brassica beds for planting out
        Repaired 2 wigwams (again)
        Fed and watered as necessary

Now I'm home and about to go out to the gh to do some more potting.

        • - spent 6 hrs mulching my front garden with newspapers & semi-rotted leafmould
          - planted out a load of Canadian Wonder frenchies, direct
          - collected lots more seaweed for feed
          - was tipped off about the committee: grumbling about my "weeds" (green manures, you numpties)
          - so I gave the "weeds" another trim, chopping them directly onto the beds as a mulch
          - deadheaded the PSB because new sprouts are forming below the flowering ones
          - chopped the flowering branches onto the soil as a mulch
          - sowed more sweetcorn: the earlier ones have rotted in the cold
          - ditto French beans, I've only had 20%-25% germination, and that's after successful chitting
          - sowed purple carrots in the gh, as it's STILL too cold outside for them
          - sorted out & updated my Flickr photos

          • Planted out 4 courgettes (Tuscany) and 7 sweet potatoes.
Weeded brassica beds and covered with environmesh. Cabbage whites have been fluttering around this week but I couldn't see any eggs yet.
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

                  • Spent this morning helping out on the allotment. We've resurfaced the track to the car park with 3 ton of stone then cleared a space for a new metal shipping container that's going to be used as a store room. I've just had my Sunday dinner using some early potatoes that I grew in the greenhouse, they tasted fantastic! Now I'm going to move some seedlings out of the heated prop into a unheated prop to grow on before potting on.

                      • I went up the allotment for hour around lunch time to see how things are getting on. My radish are growing away nicely and I've got more taters coming up. I planted some herbs and put down a layer of mulch around them to try and keep weeds at bay, and I also made a start on making my paths a little neater using bark chippings.

That sounds like a nice day

I came in and had to wash the fox poo off the dog, before I could sit down. Dirty stinker! Managed to salvage some celeriac seedlings and potted them on. Planted greenhouse cukes.
