Why do you choose what you do?

reasons for choosing various varieties of veg to grow.....

Generally mine are not variety specific except for,
Tomatoes ..
Roma VF... great for cooking
Marmande.. Good all rounder salads,sandwiches & cooking
minibel .. Good for lunchbox & if grown in a large flowerpot great for self service at BBQ's
Potatoes ...
Rocket .... salad,boiled & mashed
Cara ....... jackets,chips & roasting
Squash ..
Hunter .... excellent for soup
French bean (flat) ..
Helda ... totally stringless,mild flavour but mainly because wifey loves them

I have extremely limited space (only a few square metres were the sun hits really) so I am choosing to grow this year, stuff that is compact, unusual, or expensive to buy in supermarkets.

I will be attemtping:
Carrots in four different colours
Purple Sprouting broccoli
Cauliflower Romanesco Natalino, Cauliflower Sicily purple
Tomatoes - yellow pear, pantano romanesco
Tomatoes for hanging baskets - yellow cherry, red cherry
Tomatoes Tiny Tim - for the kitchen wndowsill
Pink Banana Jumbo squash
Pak Choi
Perpetual Spinach
Yard Long Red Bean Noodle
Rocket spuds (why? because they were a pound in Poundland!)

I have just counted my seed packets - 52 Leeks, radishes, beetroot, peas, flowers, herbs, cucumbers, courgettes, pumpkins, chillis, swiss chard, cape gooseberry, 9 varieties of tomatoes and 8 packets of various salad leaves. I wont be able to sow them all, I did get a bit carried away

I need an allotment (don't even know if there are any in my county!) or at least a bit of a garden. I may rope my mum into digging up half of hers....
