Moving Rhubarb Plants

Hi all, i brought a couple of rhubarb crowns last year and didnt get round to putting them in the ground, they only got as far as a morrisons flower bucket. Now iv got space for them on the plot but they have thrown 2/3 leaves up now.....
I heard that moving them whilst producing leaves isnt good for them.
Am i ok to move them now whilst they only have a few leaves or should i wait another year to move ?? Thanks for any help

Well, I've just had to move one as it was the only way I could remove the dock that was growing by it (new plot, very weedy) ..so fingers crossed . If its in a pot and you plant the whole thing as if you were potting on I don't see any reason for it not to survive. It might be a bit shy for this year but will be grateful of the extra room by next year.

As they are currently in a "pot" it should be fine to plant them now. I think they will be more constrained if they are left confined to a pot for another year.

Don't take any "crop" this year so they can build up their strength.

Last summer when a friend moved house we had no option but to move his crown,I dug it up with a large amount of soil & put it in a huge flower pot,sure enough over the next few weeks it wilted back but I saw it last week still in the same pot at the new house & it is fully recovered with 3 good leaves showing

I moved my rhubarb when it wasn't dormant.It survived and got bigger but it was on the close watch with watering to help it to accomodate in the new place.

thanks all..... think il be taking a chance and moving them into their new spots tommorrow.... have just spent the last 2 hours weeding a couple of little raised beds free of nettles for them.... aaah bliss in the sunshine
