Could you use them for cooking?
    Grumpy often makes pear crumble.
The problem with rounded personalities is they don't tesselate.

I grow half my beans up taut strings. The string is tied to a tent peg in the ground, and to a cup hook/trellis/anything at the top.

        Hi Sylvan,

I'm near the coast with a view of Dunnent Head and the Orkneys.

That's a method I'll definitely adopt Two_Sheds. We have lots of tent pegs.

Lovely scenery up there Dead Dogs. Do you know when your first and last frost dates are?

According to the link that Two Sheds put in another post, thanks TS, first frost is mid October and last frost is early May. I get the same times for Oxford where I grew up.

I don't know how useful that link is likely to be. It all depends how close you are to the city they are using. The nearest one to us that they will give details for is Newcastle. They give exactly the same dates as they've given you and in actual fact our last frost date is early June.

(LATE June last year but that was unusual)

I would have to agree, but having only been here for 18 months, it's better than nothing. Thurso is the nearest town on the list and it is only about 3 miles. Although I am a little higher and more exposed, just a few other porperties and farm land around me.

I also have looked at the met office side, which has lot of useful data. They give similar time looking at the average number of frost days for Kirkwall.

Ooh That's encouraging. I'd like to live somewhere with a longer growing season.

                    dead dogs,

That's what I call extreme gardening! I know exactly where you are, having spent a year there in 1966 flying a DC3 out of Wick on the original n sea oil survey!
Your problem is certainly wind and it looks as if you've mastered it....

In case you don't know it, this is a good weather site to experiment with for localish 'history'
