My padron have been a great success this summer and I have moved the plants to the gh overwinter. I am still picking a pepper or two but have noticed a couple of bright red small berries that have formed over the last few weeks. What are they?

I too had great success with my crop of Padron. By far the most prolific of my chillies, well equalish with lemon drop. I don't know whether it's the summer, but they are either totally devoid of heat, or the 6th timebomb ones. I don't think I'll bother next year.Mad Old Bat With Attitude.
I tried jogging, but I couldn't keep the ice in my glass.

Aren't they meant to be the Russian roulette of the chill world? So many chillis off each plant will be mega hot etc?Originally posted by zazen999 View PostPadron aren't supposed to be hot are they? I thought they were sweet peppers.
I'm sure I bought some of these back from Spain for my dad this year and this is what i said on the packet.

Aye - just read up on it - however the '1 in 5' seems to be a bit of an overestimation!Originally posted by russell View PostAren't they meant to be the Russian roulette of the chill world? So many chillis off each plant will be mega hot etc?

Of course, if the parent plant hadn't been isolated then it could lose all the heat....we will never know!
I think Bren should pick that pepper and have a jolly good bite of it and report back. This could be the one

Bren I think the little mini chilies are immature ones that are less likely to have fully formed seeds in. That's what I found with my diddy ones. Didn't stop me putting them in the cooking though! As for strength - I usually dab the cut chilli on the tip of my tongue and make sure I have yoghurt or milk handy!
ETA - Bren why don't you try the chilis out on your OH - you did say you wanted more excitement?Last edited by Jeanied; 07-11-2010, 08:41 AM.Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?
