  • Flowering Carrots

Probably going to be a really stupid question here but i'll go for it anyway!

I was weeding out the veg patch this evening and went to pull up what i thought was a weed amongst my autumn king carrots. Before pulling it up I had a look where it was coming from and it was in amongst the carrots and i then realised the leaves were the same as the other carrot leaves except they had purple flowers on them.

I grew carrots last year and they didn't flower however they were a different variety. Is it right that my carrots are flowering?

Are you sure it's not Nigella? The foliage is very similar.

Have you got a photo of the flower?

No photo as yet but I can take one tomorrow when it's light.

I've just googled Nigella and i don't think that's what it is. The flowers are very small and lilac in colour and grow from the tips of the leaves.
