Oh lousy tattie results for me too. Pulled up some plants to find perfect potatoes all the way down the stem ...sadly all baked bean size! Have had some reasonable size and some 2nd earlies I put in are almost baking tattie size....what's that all about???? However, delighted to say they really do taste canny.
I am more likely to dig up a gold watch than a spud.You can also bet your wellies on it that when you do find one you spike it with the fork or slice it with the hand trowel !!! Grrrrr.

I was quite disappointed with the harvest from my first earlies - lovely potatoes, just not that many of them, but it was very dry earlier in the year. I dug up some of the plants very carefully took the biggest potatoes and then carefully replanted them, dug them up again a few weeks back and had a better harvest than the original one - so I'm going to do that again next year!

But I've just dug up one plant of Pink Fir Apple and got loads - I grow them most years and it's definitely more than I usually get - all this rain is good for something more than making the weeds grow!

I've just added a poll to the thread so we can get a graphical view of everyone's results this year.

My main crop ( Isle of Jura and King Edward) were also pretty poor. The King Eds only had about 3-4 large tubers per plant and the Isle of Jura were only egg sized. I had 2 two 5m rows of each and harvested about 5-6kg per row.

I'll be more scientific next year and weigh everything!

Mine were better than expected. Apart from a very short dry spell in April/Mayish (I think) we've had very few consecutive days without rain in Aberdeen. The dreaded blight has only just struck me and I got a fair harvest of first and second earlies although there were a lot not much bigger than a large hen's egg. My Cara maincrop are holding up well against the blight and I'm hoping to leave them another week or so for some larger tatties.

My harvest (in bags) is way down on last year. Funnily enough my best crop has been the freebie plants in the onion bed!

My firsts were fairly poor, got a good number of spuds from them but they were generally small. They seemed to have what looked like scab so I sacrificed the plants a bit earlier than I wanted to in an attempt to salvage what I could. I think they got dry during the really hot weather which contributed to it. I got my money's worth in terms of what I spent on the seed potatoes and grow sacks, though not a lot else sadly.

I'm going to try them in the ground next year, see if I have any better luck there.

Just havested a row of Romanos.. got just over a kilo per plant of nice spuds.. start on the desiree end of next week, but not holding my breath as the tops dont look too good. Think i will stick to white next year.

I planted 2 rows of Kestrel this year but haven't dug them up yet(my lousy planting beside King Edward,try to guess which one is where) I was lucky enough that I could water my tatties during the dry spell so I can blame only poor soil for any failures.As for tatties-just started to dig up Desiree as blight got the haulms-had to cut them off yesterday.The rest of my tatties is still sitting happily in the ground-no sight of blight on them so I'll leave them as long as possible
