What sort of yields were you getting back then? Did you really just grow them in those small bags?
It's amazing really, just how different commercial tomato growing is to growing them at home.

I saw a Jimmy's food factory recently where they talked to Dutch pepper growers, they said they were getting 30 kg's per square metre! Now that's alot of sweet peppers.

Womble we used to get about 20 to 30 lbs per foot. Going back to what I was saying about how light is important, the old greenhouses had 12" panes of glass, going to 24" which meant less glazing bars, would increase yeild by 5lbs per foot!
We did grow mainly in growbags. plants need nutrients, water, light and heat. So it is not always dependant on what medium they are grown in.
