got a bit impatient and pulled one up , good size and smelt lovely. Cloves were not really separated though, will leave the rest for a while.

I ate another one for dinner last night (raw, yum). It was only gobstopper size & not separated, but tasty all the same

Think planted mine about April so when should they be ready?

Depends what you want to do with it? I planted some in April too, but this was to have green as a single bulb (as it wont divide cos it hasnt had a gold snap) I was planning on pulling them in August/Sept. It is just an experiment though.
If you want dried stuff then I wouldnt know.

Just wanted to share our garlic harvest that is now drying out nicely. This is the first time we've grown it and it was planted last October using bulbs bought at wilkinsons.

I pulled one up at the weekend. I couldn't tell if it had split into cloves or not, but looked decent enough size wise.

Mine are depressingly awful - very thin, no real signs of plumping up at all (huge leaves though). First time I've planted winter garlic (and at this rate perhaps last!). At this rate the late the late spring stuff will be ready first!

I'm very sad....lost all my Laurtec to white rot last weekend The only hope I have now are for the Albegesian which are sitting in the bed opposite and seem (touch wood) ok at the moment. Pulled one the other day and it was small but well on its way to being ready so hopefully will have something at the end of the month (and not just a pile of fluffy stalks!).

Time to harvest garlic?

I planted my softneck garlic cloves in November last year. A week or so back, the leaves all flopped over. Some of the leaves are starting to brown and die off. Is now the right time to harvest them?

I dug mine up 2 weeks ago as I needed the space, but most autumn/winter sown garlic should be ready about now.....

Thanks for the pic, Binley - mine went down October/November and I've had a furtle and they're very small and feel like they've not separated so far.

Can I ask a (probably) stupid question.... How long do you need to dry them before they form their papery skins? A few weeks or months?
I pulled mine saturday, and they have been out in the sunshine on a sheltered table since.
