  • We're Grandparents again

Hi there we had a surprise this morning, the Musselburgh leek seeds that we sowed last friday have started to sprout, and they are appearing before our very eyes, so we could be grandparents to 300 leeks

Its only been 5 days since we sowed them, the packet says 14-21 days, mind you they are in a mini greenhouse (no cover on) in our dining-room in front of the window and radiator.

So I guess I can plant some leeks now inside? When do they go out side?

What do you mean by outside, mazel-bee? In trays or transplanted into the ground. If you mean in the trays, do it gradually, they are hardy so you can put the seed trays outside (preferably in a coldframe or one of those little mini-greenhouses) as soon as they are a reasonable size.

Transplanting into the open ground will be much later, when they are about the thickness of a pencil.

My sister declared herself a grand parent to a spaniel pup. I thought she had gone quite mad - but grand parent to a leek
All in the spirit of the thing - enjoy your leeks.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.
