i have a birthday coming up and have been asked what i wud like. i have just taken over an overgrown allotment which i am coving with cardboard and rotted manure. i have a good spade. a quality rake and fork. a dodgy hoe.

what is the one tool i need.

I'm starting to think that potato forks are not real, just random pictures on the internet that have gone through Photoshop, so don't ask for one of those!

But I don't really understand the point of them! My normal fork works just fine for digging up spuds.

My hoe is used more than any other tool so I would have to say a decent hoe. I would also recommend what we call a scuffler it is a detachable fitting in the wolfe range, it has spiked wheels and a hoe like blade underneath. We use it for getting the soil down to a fine tilth. I think it is probably called a cultivator, not cheap at nearly �40 plus the cost of the handle but a good investment.

I would unhesitatingly recommend a right angled fork (scroll down a little). They are brilliant for clearance and save your back so much grief!
