I got off quite lightly really. Lost one of the kids pumpkins and 2 of the others were looking decidedly dodgy but seem to be picking up now, so fingers crossed. Also lost 2 winter squash but have spares of both these in the greenhouse and have sown a few more, just to make sure - the girls will never know
.
One of the first 10 sweetcorn has taken some significant leaf damage and a couple of the others have a small amount but I think that's more to do with making contact with the bubble wrap tent (desperate measures for desperate situations
) than the frost. Have redesigned my 'tent' so it is now box shaped and the corn plants have clear air around them.
Other than that everything else is looking good (touch wood) but growing slowly - as is to be expected with cold weather. Mind you the tatties are growing like it's going out of fashion and I seem to be covering leaves up every day - just in case!!!
My OH reckons that the time and effort needed means that it isn't worth us growing potatoes because they're relatively inexpensive but I so want to prove him wrong
.

Ooh the taste, i grow tatties just for that reason. With my small garden it really isn't money saving but a new tattie cooked straight from the ground is just divine, can't beat it.Originally posted by reetnproper View PostMy OH reckons that the time and effort needed means that it isn't worth us growing potatoes because they're relatively inexpensive but I so want to prove him wrong

The only thing hit was the potatoes but it was bad and here is no way they are going to recover so its out there today and replant the worst hit ones. The worst hit ones, the whole plant is black not just the leaves, so not much hope. The courgettes had some protection and look OK.

Seems I spoke too soon, lost most, if not all of my plum crop, the kiwi was frosted again, despite being wrapped in a curtain.Originally posted by BarleySugar View PostI just hope the fruit blossom is OK.

When my daughter was little, she thought the Didcot station made the clouds in the sky. She hates it to this day!Originally posted by Liza View PostNo frost here, I think the power station is acting like a giant hot water bottle !
I'm really sorry to all of you who have lost so much stuff.Last edited by Patchninja; 16-05-2010, 09:12 AM.

Wow, they must have been pretty far on. You must be really disappointed, one minute you're looking forward to a nice early crop and then the next minute you're back to square one.Originally posted by gojiberry View PostThe worst hit ones, the whole plant is black not just
I'm fortunate because I was late planting and the potatoes had only just poked their heads above the soil.

All of my new growth is black and comletely withered ( about 70% of the total 240 spuds)
Think I may need to go and do a furtle as to what state my

My Runner beans!!!! i went up to the allotment put little coke bottle houses on them and thought they'd be ok. Dead as a dodo.
My pots have same problem but i will put my trust in your Old Un :O)Originally posted by andi&di View PostOne of the 'Old Uns' assures me it should only be leaf damage and that it's happened to him before and although he didn't get a great crop they resprouted and carried on growing.
Have planted out half sweetcorn today and declaired summer. Not willing to risk prize pumbkin yet.Growing vegetables and flowers to share.

Runners and peas looking decidedly yeurch, haven't lifted the cloches or bottles to look further. A couple of spuds damaged, but they'll be ok.
Absolutely humming it down here at the moment, so it's obviously warmed up a bit!
