  • What size pots?

Tomorow I will be visiting B and Q and wondering what I should purchase. I am currently growing marrows, pumpkins, runner beans, tomatos and aubergines.

Im going to buy builders buckets sized 40,22, 12 litre which would I need for each plant. Also which compost do you suggest, I normally get the B and Q multicompost or for the same price i can get grow bags and use that as my compost?

For the tomatoes I would use 10" pots. Failing that I would go to any supermarket and beg for some of their flower buckets. Most supermarkets give them away free, but some florists charge £1.00 for five. Still cheap.

You need to drill a few holes in the bottom, but they are ideal sized for tomatoes.

They could also be used for courgettes.

P.S. They would also be suitable for aubergines.

We bought some growbags and have turned them into pots... by folding them in half and cutting across the middle. £1.19 ea from Lidl . You can fir four on a growbag tray . Punched some drainage holes in the bottom, stuck a cane in each one with a cane tied across at the top.

Sorry not very good with the whole piccy thing. Lay your growbag on the floor, grab it either side across the middle and lift it up so the two short ends are on the floor. Give it a bashing to loosen the compost and push it to each end then cut across to make two halves. Then bash 'em around a bit to reshape them. I'm sure I saw it in the current GYO magazine.
