cabbage advice please

I have been given some pots with cabbages in them,trouble is there are two or three per pot( 8 inch pots)

I have sacrificed one to see if i could split them but the roots are really tightly bound together.

Any suggestions


And yes to those who remember my other stupid question ,i am definately sure these are cabbages

Use water to disperse the compost. Not strong running water of course. Just a gentle swish. It's slow, but it works.

With 3 plants per 8" pot I would just cut the compost into thirds with a plant in each piece. It will not affect the plants to much and they will soon pick up. If this is not possible because the plants are to close then just be brutal and pull them apart, they will with some TLC grow new roots.

Last year the allotment veteran gave us a tray of cabbages which he had spare and was going to chuck on the compost (he sows the entire packet cos 'seeds are cheap'). They were all in together, roots entwined which surprised me as I didn't think they would take kindly to being disturbed. I pulled them apart and bunged em in. They grew into massive lovely cabbages some of which I had to give away. Calabrese don't like to be disturbed (although last year I did and they still did ok) but cabbages - apparently not fussy

I was given some sprouts a couple of days ago, sown in a clump in a pot. I teased them apart - they didn't seem to have much root on by this stage, but I banged them in anyway - after all I hate sprouts! The beggars all seem to be fine.
