      It's just as article by Ian Hodgson - he says that the biggest factor affecting taste and performance are the characteristics of the cultivar and the availability of sunlight. Light is pivotal ; generally the greater amount of sunlight means a higher sugar content so better flavour. Fruit shaded by foliage is insipid in comparison. Over watering gives less tasty fruit. Many heritage types are not suitable for the British climate, even under glass.
