I use bags handed out by Warrington BC from our local tip. They hole about 1 - 2 grow bags so I usually plant 5 tubers of Charlotte for the earlies and 4 P/Javlin or Maris piper for a later crop. This has worked well for the past two years. I have used large dustbins but that did not work out well at all. For me bags is best!

To make the bags more stable, I drive a 1X1 stake (the height of the unrolled bag) firmly into the ground at each "corner"of the bag (though you could probably get away with just using three). When the bag is full, I tie a couple of legnths of baler twine round the whole thing. It works a treat for me. Cornish gales may blow, but my spud bags stay upright!
