I was told the other day that red skinned potatoes are less susceptible to slug damage.
Can anyone confirm this because I get a lot of this problem and I want to decide if I should try those Rooster potatoes.

Can't confirm or deny. Kestrel are quite good at resisting damage and the are not reds.

Yes but i think kestrel are a second early and i'm thinking about a main crop which are in the ground a bit longer.

I just left my Kestrel spuds in longer as if they were main crops and they came out huge.

I grew Desiree as a main crop last year, and they resisted the slugs well - growing them again this year. Never tried Rooster, so can't help there.

Forgot to say that I also grew 13 other types of potato, all white skinned, some of which were badly attacked by slugs. Don't know which though, as the slugs ate the labels !! As Desiree was the only red skinned pot, it was the only one that I knew for certain was what.

I also had Desiree last year and no slug damage.Going to grow them this year so hoping it wasn't just good luck

what would you use desiree for? boiling mashing etc

I grew Druid last year: terrible slug damage, every single tuber had something living inside it.

I used it for boiling, mash, chips - don't recall if I did roast or baked, but I think it's a pretty good all rounder.

I usually grow charlotte and find they aren't to bad for slug damage. I am using a few slug pellets in the planting hole this year to see if it makes any difference.
