Mini Greenhouse

Today I have bought a 3 tier mini greenhouse to move my seedlings onto as I dont have a greenhouse. At the moment I have overwintering broad beans in pots on a windowsil and several other seedlings(lettuce, leek, cauliflower and sprouts) in trays. As I live in the north and it is a cold winter when will any of those to ok to be put outside?

Is your mini Gh in a fairly sheltered spot cos I think all those you mentioned would be fine to go in there. Things like tomatoes tho' still need the warmth.

It's in a corner of my backyard which should be sheltered quite well from the wind. What temperature do you think would be needed to keep the plants alive(especially the beans)?

Well Broad beans can be planted outside over winter esp. Aquadulce so there shouldn't be a problem there and brassicas like it cool. My greenhouse is unheated and isn't sheltered and I have onions, cos lettuce in there and my broadies will go up there as soon as they show themselves. The temp in there during the day has at times been about 4deg.

This doesn't directly answer your question but it might help a bit. A few years ago I had a similar problem although my only seedling protection was a coldframe, with COLD being the operative word!

Each night, just before bedtime, I put a freshly filled hot water bottle in the frame. Might sound mad (be quiet Hazel ) but I kept the temperature up enough that I didn't lose any plants that Spring.

I was just wondering about doing this ( but with an old stone Hot water Bottle) in my mini GH inside my 8x6 polycarbonate GH ) but was too embarrassed to ask in case I got laughed at Its still snowing here and the temp was well below freezing every night last week but I'm about to run out of space as I only have 3 south facing windows and the other side of the house is really to dark for seedlings. Might give it ago

What a great tip! im also running out of window sill space, but have a couple of coldframes, guess what i'll be buying this weekend...a hot water bottle!
