Like that one Liza, will remember that for when the grandkids are over next.
At the moment they all get crushed and chucked in the compost like most other non chook owners.

..........but could they be crushed and used as vermiculite when sowing seeds ?

What about that membrane inside - do you strip it off or just leave it? I'm liking the idea of crushing and adding to brassicas, this will be my first year of growing them. (I don't count the small plants we bought last year and planted in containers at the caravan, as when OH went there in Jan to fetch the dehumidifier home he said the rabbits had been eating them. Grrr! Will find out sometime in March I guess.)

Just leave the membrane Maggie but do crush the shells or you will wait forever. The best advice I have ever found on composting materials is here. Organic matter for garden composting

A friend who has a worm farm crushs them and the worms sort them out it helps them so she tells me.
Me i only want the juice that come's out of the tap at the bottom majic stuff...jacob
