What shall I grow in the baby bath?

I couldnt resist asking on freecycle for the 'baby bath and stand'.....I just knew that it would be great for the garden.

So now I thought I'd ask what you guys would grow in it....

So far I've been thinking: lettuce/salad leaves (will it keep the slugs at bay I wonder?); or strawberries for the same reason & I could keep just outside the back door and munch some every time I go in or out the house; beetroot; ot do I put the plug in it and grow something that likes boggy conditions??/

Ideas would be gratefully received...

You are funny Laura. I mooched an Old Belfast Sink from my neighbour in the Summer and grew herbs in it think you saw it when you were here. How about trying that or something that trails - BNS?

I grew loads in things like that last year, mainly salad leaves and herbs though..

I quite like your idea of strawberries and have a munch... I may steal that idea as our little one is almost too big for her baby bath now!

I used mine as a potting bench! Just the right height for planting things and messing about with dirt!

How about spring onions or radishes, both will do well in the shallow soil. Another idea is carrots, the small round Paris Market type, the height should keep the carrot fly off. Alternatively if you are going to put a plug in and create wetter planting conditions how about landcress.

Cut some holes in the bottom and sides and grow vertical & upside down strawberries with ornamental salad leaves in the top!

You should be able to grow any veg that doesn't have long roots. Last year I grew early spuds in one and followed with cabbage. A fish box (similar size to baby bath) had spring cabbage followed by salads. You should easily get two crops if you plan it right.

i decided in the end to grow alpine strawberries in it. i had some kindly given to me by a fellow grape so they are in the unheated conservatory till they are big enough and then will go in it at the conservatory doors....my mouth is watering at the very thought of all those juicy berries in the summer.....

nah! not up our way anyway - babies come from under gooseberry bushes...oops! we have four bushes....does that mean I'm having quads next year??!!??
