Anybody have advice for using this...?

Hi All

I received one of these for Christmas...

GroBox - buy at Firebox.com

It says that the veg seeds in it incluides...

Winter Spinach, Broadbeans, Peas, Cabbage, Spring Cabbage, Onion, Swiss Chard,

however on the actual box i also get Carrots, Radish, Garlic and Chives.

Now I know that some of this veg needs to grow at different depths,, needs different types of support etc. etc. but wondered if anyone had used one before.

Thanks for reading and any tips people might be able to offer.

What a bizarre item!

Have you got a photo of the box with the lid off? How do they propose to get the carrots and radish spaced out?

I know.

It's spaced out much like the box on the website in the link above. It's got 24 little compartments inside. I've had a look inside and all I can seem to find is 6 broadbeans and a pea. I appreciate some seeds are tiny and may not be seen in the 'sand' that's in there.

You push out the perforated holes in the top of the box, dig a hole and plant it.

I suppose I shall give it a whirl but i need to know the latest when it can go in.

Well I have never seen anything like that before, I am intrigued but not sure how it would work.

You'd never get all that lot in a small space like that!

I suppose I'd just put it in around the end of March and see what occurs.

One cabbage can take up the whole of that space. No wonder they haven't heard of Jayne the designer; probably in prison for crimes against horticulture.

[Probably a product of a brainstorming meeting to think up new products ]. The made up reviews say it all really. Wow! I never could be bothered with doing any gardening so this product is brilliant!

lol.... Just brilliant for Christmas, like a panto, add water, rub the magic lamp and WHOOOOOOSH, veggie garden appears (bit disappointing the veg aren't cooked, you still have to do that bit yourself do you?...). Couldn't resist Googling Jayne the designer and came up with:

it reminds me of the Grow Your Own Herbal Tea kit I received a few years ago: a massive wooden crate (like a cat size coffin, now there's a thought) and inside were 2 glass cups, a dead mint and a dead lemon verbena.

All for the bargain price of �37

but it doesn't say that Jayne designed the box. It says "carefully selected plants that flower in arrangements designed by horticulturist Jayne Lawton"

I agree TwoSheds, and it also says "No, we haven�t heard of her either" which is a bit cheeky but there is a sense of humour running throughout and @�5.99 it's not quite as costly as your cat's coffin.... Jayne is clearly quite enterprising and has completed an RHS course and this is Square Foot gardening and Pelleted Seed gone barmy! But I'm interested to hear from Russell what happens... we want a photo record, please.... bb.

p.s. For Christmas I had friends to lunch but next year might just give 'em each a box with one brussel seed, a seed potato etc (and if they're meat-eaters an egg....). One up on Christmas crackers with naff jokes....

I won a Grow your own Bonsai kit in a raffle at �12 its not something I'd have bought for myself or anyone else, anyway so I planted the seeds and up to yet I've got 2 seedlings about a inch high growing.

On ebay - I sell 'lottie packs' of seed; which is a mix of stuff I've bought and grown but will never use it all up before the expiry date and my own saved seed [I sow lots of varieties but only a few of each every year'.....for that price you could have 34 packs of my seed with enough for a year's growing; plus postage

I might start a different marketing strategy - someone hand me the cardboard and some pritt stick....
