It looks just like a rabbit breed called the English Spot, they have a stripe along their spine and speckles down their side: english spot rabbit - Google Images

There's one name which includes all these suggestions, and (in my probably warped opinion) will seem entirely appropriate and self-explanatory to anyone who sees any such similar bean for the first time.

I'm going to start saving some of my own seed as from next year, and though that, as far as runner-beans are concerned, rather than go to great lengths to prevent them cross-pollenating (someone on another thread described runners as "the sluts of the bean world"), I thought I'd go the other way and encourage them to, by growing two or three varieties next year next to each other, and growing the seed the following year, perhaps with a fourth named variety next to them to add still more genes into the pool, and so on for succeeding years. I'd only grow on the strongest of the seedlings each year, but that apart, it'd be pot luck what I got. It's probably a daft idea, but it'd be interesting at least. Next year, I'll start it off by growing 'Scarlet Emperor', 'Enorma' and maybe a white-flowered variety together on tripods, one of each to each tripod.

I'm new to this and am saving runner seed this year. I'd read that beans were self pollinating and didn't cross unless encouraged to.

French beans don't, but runners do.

Well, I like Ink Spot, I like English Rabbit and I like Piebald. I might have to toss a 3 headed penny!

I tried cooking both these beans this morning. Had to go out before they were finished though, so I turned out the gas and they're still there. So no taste report, but the colour hasn't gone as it did when they were used as shellies.

Well, here's another! It's the one on the left. The smaller specimens on the right are shop bought haricots. It's working name is Cream although I'm drawn slightly to Binky (Death's Pale Horse from Terry Pratchett novels!)
