  • Herbs - Over Winter

I have grown basil (purple and green), sage, oregano and thyme. The question is what should I do with these over autumn and winter, will they survive outside?

All except the basil will survive outside.

I keep basil inside in Winter - it may still wither away, but picking some shoots and standing them in water will give you roots and new plants in a week or three - this is a tip I learned on this site from Flummery and it's worked a dream.

I leave the others (sage, oregano, thyme) outside, they do fine.

Hi, I read somewhere you should cut them right back - is this right? I've got very big mint, taragon, sage and rosemary plants - and we get a lot of snow!

Thanks for your answers, I spent the weekend tidying my garden up and one of the jobs was to pot the various herbs up and put the basil in an indoor pot.
