I have in my greenhouse spring hero,to plant out in the next couple of weeks, the outside or lower leaves keep going yellow and then drop off.they have about 6 or 7 leaves in total, with new ones coming.they look ok apart from this yellowing.I wondered if it is a watering problem,to little or to much.
Also when I do plant them out how much watering will they need at first and over the winter. This is my first year of growing by the way,I am a complete novice. Many thanks for any advice.Ann

) but I'll give it a shot until some cabbage experts appear... 6 or 7 leaves on each seedling sounds quite healthy to me, you may be over molly-coddling them in the greenhouse so providing you've prepared them for the change in average temperature (during the current autumn sunny snap early morning temperatures are LOW!) I'd aim to get them in the garden sooner rather than later. Now by best tip, from experience! Make sure you protect them from cabbage white butterflies which are still very active - netting is the only solution. If they get in and lay eggs (little groups of bright yellow specks) the resulting caterpillars will devastate your crop in no time so 'net and check'. You'll obviously water them in when you plant them out but after that it need only be occasional if we have a dry autumn, and over the winter most unlikely. My other tip would be if you know where you're going to plant them out dress that patch with some garden lime (usually available in a pelleted form from Wilkinsons for example) as brassicas/cabbage like a neutral non-acid soil. But main main main tip... get them out soon and protect from the ******* cabbage whites! b.
. Far too hot. Ann would you please tell us where you are in your profle? It's not that people on here are nosy, but it genuinely helps when discussing problems.
