Serbian Pole Beans highly recommended

What is the best pole bean you've grown for ease of cultivation,
productivity and most importantly taste?
I have to say that the Serbian Pole Beans are winning by a long
way for me this year. Very productive and yummy.

Flum sent me some Serbian too, and by golly they are good beans.
I rate Cosse Violette (climber) for fresh beans though ... nearly black (so easy to spot for picking), earlier than green beans, more prolific than dwarf beans ... lush.

Never heard of these beans are they used as dry beans or can they be eaten fresh.always interested in trying new varieties .Where are the seeds available from and any other favourites recommended. I agree with cosse violette.

I've never heard of the Serbian beans. The climbing beans I have had this year are Cherokee Trail Of Tears and I am very impressed.

I am glad you are all having success with them. I have 3 varieties of Serbian pole bean and I have called them very originally 1, 2 and 3.

I will release some later when I have harvested them.

Cosse Violette sound interesting. I'd love to try those if anyone has a few seeds spare in the autumn.
I find the Serbian beans are so tender that its a bit like eating mange tout. Well impressed! I like them so much that I might ditch my old runners next year. They are so prolific that I am worried they might burn themselves out all too soon.
I will save lots of seeds at the end of the season. I am all out now but I will post
in the seed swap section in the autumn.

Cosse Violette & Blauhilde have been my favourite for a while. Very easy to see and pick.

Blauhilde can be overlooked and still cropped fresh and tasty at a vary large size without stringy problems - my neighbour begged for these seeds to try herself.

I have some cobra in this year on someones recommendation and these are really delicious when young and tender [kenyan style]. They cropped 3 weeks before the purple ones as well and are much more vigorous.

However I now have a yen for the Serbian Pole beans - might have to PM for a few to try. Thanks for that recommendation.

Are the Serbian pole beans originally grown for green beans or for dried beans?

What colour are the seeds?

In Bosnia ( just up the road from Serbia ) many people grow pole beans for drying and cook a delicious soup/stew flavoured with smoked meat during the winter months. Many varieties are grown and most people have their favourite colour. I have seen white, black, beige, brown, maroon, red and many mottled variations

I think I need to start mooching to get my grubby mitts on the Serbian Pole Beans Like others I have Cherokee Trail of Tears, I have just swapped with Lizzy and got hold of Monastic Pole Beans but now I WANT the Serbian Beans.
