Caulis gone all funny!

I thought my cauli's were doing well, but they have gone all unbunched, if you know what i mean, there is no longer a tightness to the head, what have i done wrong?

Sounds like its begining to bolt, happened to a lot of mine this year, in fact I am not going to bother with Summer Caulis anymore

They should be covered with cheese sauce not sitting on your plot, once the flower appears it is quite tight to begin with, then cracks start to show this is the time to cut them wether they are golf ball sized or normal sized they are not going to get any bigger that is it no good waiting another six months that is what you are getting or you end up as you have and the flower blows.

Normally signifies they weren't healed in or were planted in newly dug soil! They need to be in firm soil to give firm heads...........or so I'm led to believe!

I'd agree thy are JUST starting to bolt.

Difficult to say why but this year's weather is a bit odd and Snadger is correct about the roots. Anything that makes the plant feel thtreatened will cause it to bolt. Lots of people try growing them and give up in failure so don't worry (and don't give up - next year will be different!!).

Harvest them now and they will be fine to eat ; another day and they could be past it.

Ok, thanks, will see if i can harvest them now, hopefully they will be eatable!! Will try again next year and see how i go?
