I grew some many years ago but left them in the ground too long. They were bigger than tennis balls and very tough and stringy and I vowed never again. However, I'm a glutton for punishment so I've got about a dozen coming along nicely at the moment but this time I'll pick them sooner. The leaves are also edible so don't throw them away. I guess you would serve them like cabbage.

Thanks for the tips. I didn't know you could eat the leaves as well, so will hang on to those too. Are they frost hardy? Only asking because I'm wondering if I could grow it as a winter crop.

I start mine in the tunnel in cells and plant out as I would normal brassicas. Superschmelz (a Lidl special ) can be sown now without any problem Shirl.
