only reference I can find that may give a clue says they are shallow rooters which would imply they don't go deep.

you may be jealous of my sunny location but its not all good when growing veggies any ideas how i can cool my rhubarb down its wilted in the heat....maybe there are some things i shouldnt bother with
oh to make you more jealous i have harvested today celeriac,parsnips,loads of toms,spring onion,peppers,strawberries,peas and leeks ummm yummy

I have peas ready to harvest but not much else.
Can you grow something sunloving and large near the rhubarb to provide some shade? maybe a squash or courgette?

ah good idea i have some courgette plants that need transplanting will stick them next to rhubarb....will def enjoy harvest having beef with roasted home grown veg x

How much do you cut off to take a slip? Also, how do you re-plant the slip?

i take of at least a 3 to 5 inch slip and either put in water to root or a very grity soil mixture

is a slip the same as a slice and does it matter where on the potato you take it from?

A slip is the shoot coming off the potato.

a slip is the new shoots just like normal potatoes but they need to be removed from the potato when they are 3 to 5 inches tall and then planted or rooted in water ..i found sticking them in water for a week or so helped......but i still dont know how deep these blxxxy pots are i might just dig one up take the bull by the horns and just do it

isn't the sweet potato a creeping plant like morning glory - if so that would imply to me that's it's roots are quite shallow so I don't think the potatoes will be very far down
