Today I Mostly Harvested......

Just pulled my Garlic after reading that once the foliage has died back, I need to pull them as soon as possible, bit disappointed really, the bulbs seem really small. Last time I grew garlic they were huge!! Not sure if I've done something wrong or it's just a bad year with the weather.

On the plus side I've picked LOADS of raspberries and strawberries, about to go and make jam!

Purple podded peas, mixed lettuce leaves, Pentland javelin potatoes fennel and some basil.

First yellow courgette, more broad beans and peas. I expected little hands to be harvesting the peas this weekend, but they haven't, so I've taken the opportunity and picked them myself for a change!

Almost forgot - six Little Gem, the rest have been devoured. Guess what was inside one of them? No prizes.

Broad beans, rhubarb still (must be an everlasting plant - it came from Yorkshire and Mr VVG is dead proud ), potatoes - earlies, a few peas for daughter (not enough for a meal for four ), beetroot, but still no ripe currants or berries

Loads of rhubarb about 6 strawberrys and about 4 mangetout today.
National Grid are coming to dig up my back garden tomorrow to replace the gas mains and I'm not sure just how much of my veggie patch they are going to ruin. :-(
I hope I get the chance to harvest more stuff and they don't trample my veggie patch and kill it all off.

Yesterday ...

Our first ever broad beans - OK they were titchy, but steamed in their pods - absolutely delicious
Chard, beetroot leaves and perpetual spinach.

All served with the new potatoes we dug up earlier in the week.

A basketfull of courgettes and pattipan squash which all got damaged by Saturday's hail storm. Ditto gherkins, cucumbers and random cabbage leaves.
Proper harvest was spuds, raspberries c&c lettuce (how did that survive?) and Ola Polka tomatoes.

Well the cabbages are still ho hum, but might harvest some of the bigger leaves for a stir fry shortly. A leek............nearly ready, but how do I tell? And a beetroot (yes, ok only one, but better than none)
It seems to have a really big beetroot under it! So excited. Now I'm wondering if it only grows one? or should there be a lot more to come?
The corn salad is green but frankly leaves me unexcited as it is such a small plant.

And my globe artichoke? How do I know when it's done?

Yesterday picked about 6lb of strawberries, had some of them after dinner with some blackcurrants and icecream. Delicious !
Had a furtle around under potatoes... seem really small still. : (
Picked some raspberries.
Turned the garlic and onions drying in the shed and brought some home for tonights tea along with a big bunch of Coriander. LIFE IS GOOD!! : )
