      I grow lettuces underneath. Sown in a greenhouse, hardened off.. and then into the ground as the beans go in...

          I have never done this, but it would seem that trailing plants such as cucumbers, marrows, or melons could be started in the centre of a newly erected wigwam. As the plants start to spread they can be trained away from the centre and into the open (ideally to the south of the wigwam) so that when the beans are in full flush the vines would be in sufficient sunlight to flourish. Watering to the centre should not be a problem. I might try this myself this year, although I have never had much success with cucurbits outside of the greenhouse.
