I've put mine to chit only tonight - beware of being too hasty though, as it's gone noticeably colder here tonight, but I haven't seen a countrywide forecast. After all, if you lose it because of the cold you'll be a lot further behind! I don't want to be a doom monger though, don't get me wrong 
I've only grown sweetcorn once before though and that was years ago when I lived in much warmer somerset, so perhaps you'd best ignore what I have to say on the matter!
