Leggy Potatoes

Started them off indoors and now some of them look to leggy to cope with the wind outside.

Should I 'prune' them or let nature do her worst ???

That is a problem with starting things too early, indoors.

Me - I would let them take their chances... earth them up around the leaves just to leave the top couple of inches showing.

I've never heard of anyone starting potatoes indoors before!

I started all 11 buckets of spuds indoors last month, they do just fine, if they are leggy, and you have them somewhere with enough light, start earthing them up, they love that, the green will fight through, and whats under the soil will start producing tubers.

no need to 'prune' the deepr you 'earth' them, the more spuds you will get.

no if we are talking seed here, same thing, top growth will be leggy, its searching for light and this time of year its still sparse, so pot them off, and as long as you wait till you have at least the second set of leaves, start earthing, but this time leave the top set of leaves showing, then same as above, until you decide wether to put them in the gorund or in buckets.

I got leggy spuds once, when we first moved here they were grown against a wall and stretched for the light. They grew fine in the end. Just earth up as much as you can.

If they continue to be leggy, and you can get them outdoors for the full sun quota...they might be mown down after heavy rain...hopefully once they are outdoors they would thicken up as well...
