Leeks

Can anyone give me some help. Last year I planted leeks in a tray, as usual I was left with half a tray of seedling. Being a kind sort I found an unplanted part of the plot and planted this large clump. These seedling now look like the strong little chaps waiting to be transplanted. Can I actually use these for this year or will they run straight to seed, it seems such a shame to waste them.PLEASE CAN ANYONE HELP??????

The leek is a biennial and flowers in the second year. I wouldn't plant them out as even the best leeks only have about 1 yr to 18 month between sowing and flowering!
Far better to sow new leeks now and eat tuthers as mini leeks before they run to seed!

I have the same and I'm planning on planting out. I think there is a strong chance they'kll go to seed but they're so small right now its not worth the bother harvesting. I'll just see how they go but I have sown new seed already which will also be planted out.
