Over wintered chili's

Hi,

Thought it may be interesting to see how peeps got on with over wintering their chili plants.

From last you I succesfully managed to over winter.

3 Apachi
3 Scotch Bonnets
4 Jalepenos
2 Red Cherry
1 Fresno
1 Bolivian Rainbow
1 Cayenne

and a couple of tesco mixed types,

These are all going top guns now, so hopefully I will have an earlier harvest than last year.

How did everyone else do ?

Does it count if I kept mine on the windowsill rather than making them go dormant? If so then my scotch bonnet is currently on its third flush of fruits

I've overwintered:
1 naga morich
3 bih jolokia
3 chocolate habaneros
2 orange habaneros
2 rocotos
1 tabasco
1 purple tiger
1 black hungarian
1 tepin
1 apache
1 adorno
3 bolivian rainbows

The only one that didn't do too well was the Black Hungarian, but we didn't have any deaths which was good. We actually had to prune a few of them last week as they were putting on so much new growth they were outgrowing the windowsills.

Im jelous was my first year growing chilli's last year only had a couple of plants did not know till too late that they can be over wintered, mine have been in a cold greenhouse all winter most of the time there was only half a roof on the greenhouse as well so think I have lost mine! I have gone mad this year I already have a few different chilli seedlings on the go since 22 Jan they are doing good and sowed a few more last night! I have lots of Habs and other hot chilli's on the go! yum

Mine were on the back bedroom windowsill with the radiator off. Results as follows:

• Purple Tiger - second time overwintered, all survived. Lost most of their leaves but making new growth now
• Pretty in purple - first year overwinter, kept all their leaves and kept growing new chillis. All survived really well. Most successful variety (of mine) to overwinter
• Early Jalapeno - First year overwinter, either lost a few of their leaves and now growing new ones, or turned up their toes really quickly and carked it - about 50% survival rate
• Big Jim - RIP
• Medusa - RIP
• Friar's Hat - Second year, all survived losing a few leaves, new growth now
• Orozco - First year, all survived, lost a few leaves, but new growth now

I kept them just moist with very dilute worm tea - I read that in a magazine from a proper chilli grower - and had better survival rates than last year just using water. Big Jim and Medusa excepted, of course, but I only had one each of them. Good job I saved some seed from them
