Best tip I have seen for getting rid of the nasties (bindweed, couch grass etc) that pop up once you patch has been dug over and planted - mix round up with wall paper paste, using disposable gloves smear all over the weed and then take the glove off covering the weed, leave until you are sure its dead, or you could train the bind weed up a cane before smearing. The trick is not to let it trail across the ground as it spread out a bit like a hand and gets back under ground causing more trouble.

So is it okay to use Roundup on the grass where I want to plat my fruit and veg?

I have read all these threads with great interest as I am extending my veggie patch in the garden so that I can grow more veg and the patch of grass that I will be digging up is not worth cutting so I am putting it to much better use! So thanks for the tips.

I like that idea - come and grow, come on, put all that energy into growing, and then wallop!
