I have a cat, much to the annoyance of youngest dog.

I have one neighbour that has 4 pusses and the other has 2. The lady across the street has 3 - my raised beds were glorified en-suites to them last year. I've found a place very close to me that does 2nd hand Wondermesh - my garden is going to be draped like a Bedouin Tent this year.

I found gorse cuttings worked really well, berberis is almost as good. Not only do all cats hate getting spiked, the cuttings suppress weeds too, and they last pretty much forever.
The reflection in the bottle thing is a myth, cats don't see things as we do so they do not recognise the shape of themselves in the bottle. I have seen a garden full of bottles turned into a cat litter tray, while the garden next door was unscathed. It's just down to where they want to scent mark, and what they learn to ignore.
Don't know how many of them are afraid of willy-wagglers !!

My two cats which I inheritted when they were newly born have been a total scourge to me and my garden.
The only thing thats effective for me is the prunings from my rose bushes.
They work a treat.

I have similar issues with my cats - any newly dug or planted ground is exactly what they love. They've been all over where my raspberries were planted, even though that was in November. Less effort for them I guess... I've simply resigned to all root veg in containers since my ground is too stony and clay like anyhow.

I guess homemade cloches until plants are established is one good measure if you can secure them. I can say onion/garlic smells don't dissuade my cats as they dug all mine up last year. Shame there's not an easy way to rig up pressure pads to trigger spraying the blighters with water! I guess some sort of catproof low fencing that they can't balance on is the best bet.

A neighbours cat was crapping on my chives, I heard about the snake thing too and decided to try it out. Hubby had some left over yellow (and I don't know if this makes a difference) hose and he cut it up into wriggly pieces for me and I lay it around my herbs and have never had a problem with cats since.

My cat RIP use to hate the smell of oranges.

Hi everyone.

Latest update....still cant stand my cat!!!!

So my old man came back from work and had all these grand plans going on in his head, some of them may even require planning permission but still hes got plans which means it might get done next weekend.

The concept of snakes is interesting, though we dont have them here in the FI, and my cat seems to think the hose is fun, so not sure that one will work! The lions poo might work, but could get a bit smelly having flown 8,000 miles (phewweee!) but still an interesting thought there. Like i said have lemons on the garden at the moment, and havent noticed a swarm of hungry flys tucking into the latest deposit...so seems to have worked for the time being.

I do have another plan up my sleeve, i could stop feeding her, then she wouldnt need to poop, or i could put a cork where the sun dont shine erm getting a bit random now aint i!

Probably not practical but my sister once got p****d on by a tiger (at a zoo) and all our cats wouldnt go near her for weeks!
